Hi, I’m Tom, the WordPress web designer behind SO Web Designs.
I’ve been building websites for small businesses across Hampshire, Surrey, and Berkshire since 2009, and every website I deliver is designed, built, and supported by me personally.
No account managers. No outsourced development. Just straightforward, honest web design from someone who genuinely cares about getting you results.
How SO Web Designs Started
I started SO Web Designs in 2009 after spending years building websites and seeing the same problem play out over and over: small businesses were being charged thousands of pounds for websites that looked outdated within six months and offered no real support once the invoice was paid.
I wanted to build something different: a local web design business where clients always deal with the same person, get a fair price, and aren’t left to figure things out on their own after launch.
More than fifteen years later, that’s still how we work. We’ve built over 500 websites for businesses across Hampshire, Surrey, and Berkshire, from sole traders and local restaurants to established retailers and professional services firms.
Almost all of our work comes through referrals and Google, which I think says more about the quality of what we do than any marketing campaign could.
What Makes SO Web Designs Different
When you contact SO Web Designs, you speak to me. Not a salesperson. Not an account manager who passes your project to a team you’ve never met. I handle the design, build, SEO setup, and ongoing support myself. That means you get consistent communication, no dropped balls between departments, and someone who actually knows your website inside out when you call for help six months after launch.
I also build on-page SEO into every website as standard, not as an upsell. Your meta titles, headings, image alt text, page speed, and internal linking structure are all set up correctly before your site goes live. Many of our clients tell us they went with SO Web Designs after getting quotes from larger agencies and realising they’d be paying two or three times the price for less personal service.
Our websites start from £695 for a professional 5-page WordPress site, with clear, itemised quotes and no hidden costs.

We’re happy to meet clients in person where practical, although most projects are managed smoothly through email, phone and video calls.

Who runs SO Web Designs?
SO Web Designs is run by Tom. Every project, design, development, SEO setup, and ongoing support, is handled by me personally. You won’t be passed between departments or account managers. When you call, you speak to the person who built your website.
How long have you been in business?
Do you work on your own or have a team?
I handle all design, development, and client communication myself. For specialist requirements, professional photography, copywriting, or print design, I work with trusted freelancers I’ve built relationships with over the years.
What kind of businesses do you work with?
Mostly small to medium-sized businesses, trades, professional services, restaurants, health and beauty, retailers, and local service providers. I also build specialist sites for niche industries like fisheries. I work particularly well with businesses that have been let down by a previous web designer or have outgrown a template site.
Can I meet you in person?
What if I'm not happy with the design?
I involve you at every stage; you see designs and approve them before I build. If something isn’t right, we adjust it. I don’t move to the next stage until you’re happy with the current one. I’d rather take an extra day getting it right than launch something you’re not proud of.
Do you only build WordPress websites?
We're Based in Aldershot, Hampshire
I’m based in Aldershot and most of my clients are in and around Farnham, Fleet, Farnborough, and Camberley, though I regularly take on projects further afield in Guildford, Woking, Bracknell, and Basingstoke.
I’m always happy to meet in person where practical, though most projects are managed smoothly over the phone, email, and video calls.
